Bureaucracy Admits They Overstepped their Boundaries

As required by law, a Home School Legal Defense Association member family submitted their Home-Based Private Educational Program Form (PI-1206) by October 15. However, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction rejected the form, citing that it did “not meet all of the statutory requirements” because the family did not supply a street address or grade levels.

Though it was listed on the form, the law does not require grade levels, and the street address is given merely as a convenience. The family called HSLDA and Senior Counsel Chris Klicka sent a letter to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, asserting that the form, as submitted by the family, complied with statutory requirements.

As requested in the letter sent by Mr. Klicka, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction provided a written acknowledgment that the member family's Home-Based Private Educational Program Form complied with the statutory requirements. The family was pleased with the acknowledgement and is continuing in their school year.
