HONDA to be Introduced in the U.S. Senate

On Friday, August 1, 2003, Senator Larry Craig of Idaho will be introducing in the United States Senate the Home School Non discrimination Act (HONDA). This bill will mirror H.R. 2732, which was recently introduced in the House of Representatives by Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave. Having HONDA introduced in both the House and the Senate will provide additional opportunities to move the legislation along.

HONDA clarifies that the federal government has no control over homeschooling and consolidates in one bill several federal issues which negatively impact home education. These issues, arising from already existing law, include problems homeschool graduates experience when applying to college, as well as unnecessary restrictions on the working hours of homeschooled teenagers. Senator Craig and Congresswoman Musgrave worked with Home School Legal Defense Association over the last few months to craft the bill.

"We now have 41 cosponsors to HONDA in the House" noted Caleb Kershner, HSLDA's Manager of Federal Policy and Research, "Keep those calls coming!"
