House Bill 1530: Raises Compulsory Attendance Age
Author:
Representative Messer
Summary:
As originally drafted, this bill would have raised the age of compulsory attendance from 18 to 19, raised the age of withdrawal with parent and principal approval from 16 to 17, and made it much harder to get principal approval. In HSLDA's negotiations on the bill, the proponents agreed to remove all of the language in the bill negatively affecting home schoolers and leave the age of compulsory attendance at 18. This bill was amended in conformity with the negotiations, and HSLDA no longer opposes the bill.
