Senate Bill 701: Changes to Compulsory Attendance Age

Summary:
This bill would have lowered the compulsory attendance age from 6 to 5 and make kindergarten mandatory.

Status:
This bill was introduced on January 17, 2003. The bill is now in the Senate Education Committee and in the Senate Ways and Means Committee. On February 3, 2003, the Education Committee voted to hold the bill. Six Senators in favor of holding the bill while two Senators, Kawamoto and Menor excused themselves from voting. Since the Hawaii Legislature adjourned sine die on May 1, 2003, the bill is now dead.

This bill was opposed.
