Mrs. M v. Social Security Administration
Benefits denied because of homeschooling

Filed: September 2, 20044.

Nature of Case: P.T., Mrs. M's homeschooled son, is entitled to receive certain benefits until he graduates from high school. The Social Security Administration (SSA), however, doesn't think so. Refusing to consider P.T. a "student," they decided to withhold his benefits. Even after Mrs. M submitted curriculum samples and materials regarding her homeschool, the SSA would still not consider P.T. a student.

Status: HSLDA has filed a Request for Reconsideration on Mrs. M's behalf. We are waiting for a decision.
