Nature of Case: In October 2001, the Frazen family decided to homeschool their daughter after she was beaten up at school. They were successfully homeschooling, using an accredited high school program, when they received a summons to court for "parent contributing to truancy" and the daughter's "failure to attend school."

Status: After HSLDA's intervention, Austin has continually kept resetting the date for the trial, with the result that there is no trial date scheduled now. There are only two months remaining in the school year so the case will likely be dropped for lack of evidence of actual truancy, and the family has been allowed to keep homeschooling during the interim.
